The Festival

Shichi Go San Festival President Marisa De Vattimo

(Australia Japan Society of WA & Perth Professional Vocalist) felt there was a need for expatriated Japanese children living in Perth to experience the memories of the Shichi Go San Festival, while they are living in Australia.

Marisa wants to bring the Shichi Go San Festival to the Japanese children of Perth and Perth children who are interested in Japanese culture.  Now this dream has become a reality with support of a festival committee:

Mr Chiharu Fukumoto, Principal Japan Weekend School (Japanese Festival WA)

Mr Ben Wholagan, Festival Vice President (Australia Japan Society of WA)

Mrs Izumi Woods, Festival Costume Director (Kimono Club)

Mr Ken Nishida, Festival Treasurer (Australia Japan Society of WA)

Mr Akira Yoshida, Director, Hyogo Prefectural Government Cultural Centre

Mrs Melissa Luyke, Deputy Director, Hyogo Prefectural Government Culural Centre

The Shichi Go San Festival Committe have partnered with the Hyogo Prefectural Government Cultural Centre of Western of Australia & the Australia Japan Society of WA.  The festival is also supported by the Japanese School in Perth, the Japanese Weekend School in Perth and Japanese playgroups.

All members of the Japanese kindergartens, Japanese schools and children of Japanese Australian families are invited.  Games, food stalls,  entertainment as well as the Hyogo Culture Centre providing the "Japanese culture room" for costume photos for the children.

**Please look at the Kids Costume Registration page to if you would like your child to dress in Shichi Go San Festival costume and to have their photograph taken.**

Vision:

The vision is to give these children an opportunity to experience this festival that they miss in Japan. It is the first time the children are officially allowed to wear their traditional clothes (also rite of passage).  The special ages of the children are 7, 5 & 3 years of age. The children are also given special 1000 year old sweets (Chitose-Ame) to ensure a long life.

Chitose-Ame:

Chitose-Ame are being delivered from Japan just for this festival and will be  for sale for $6.00 at the festival.  This is a very rare treat in Perth!

Torii Gate:

A Special Festival Torii Gate has been made and donated by  John of Shoji Screens Australia and will be only on display at the festival. The Torii Gate wood is kindly donated by Bunnings Innaloo.

Shinto Shrine:

A mini Shinto Shrine is on special deliver to Perth from Japan and will also be on display at the festival where children and their families can have happy wishes together. The special delivery from Japan has been made with the kind assistance of the Company Cubeit.

The Shichi Go San Festival thanks all sponsors, donations and volunteers for their valuable assistance.
